Driving Sustainable Growth in the Blue Economy
Blue Finance is a fast-emerging area within sustainable finance, attracting increasing interest from investors, banks, and issuers worldwide. It channels capital into projects that promote the sustainable use of ocean and freshwater resources — including aquaculture, water demand, supply and management, plastics recycling, shipping and coastal tourism, while having significant environmental and social impact.
Since launching its first version of Guidelines for Blue Finance Guidelines in 2022, IFC has mobilized over $2 billion in blue loans and bonds, funding projects that are both sustainable and commercially viable. This webinar explores the updated Guidelines for Blue Finance, lessons learned from global blue finance transactions have helped to refine blue project eligibility criteria, new technologies and businesses in the sustainable blue economy, and developments in the sustainable finance market.
